The REWIRE Programme: REinforcing Women In REsearch

The overall goal of the REinforcing Women In REsearch (REWIRE) COFUND Programme, a Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions COFUND project funded by the European Commission,  is to establish a support scheme for excellent postdoctoral female researchers to foster their scientific development, to nurture their expertise and to make a profound impact on their future careers.

The Programme aims to address statistics published in the European Commission's "She Figures" which clearly demonstrate that women are under-represented in advanced academic careers. REWIRE, which will run until 2025, is strongly focused on career development planning and training aimed to equip the 16 REWIRE fellows, chosen over two competitive calls, with the necessary skills to reach professional maturity and independence as researchers, ensuring they are competitive candidates for professorships in Europe and further afield, as well as for investigator grants such as the ERC Starting Grant or Austrian Science Fund (FWF) START Programme.

Key features:

  • 16 36-month postdoctoral fellowships in any discipline offered at the University of Vienna
  • Monthly research cost allowance
  • A highly competitive programme supporting academic career progression
  • Focus on non-research oriented and transferable skills and training
  • Career development planning and monitoring
  • Based at the largest research and education institution in Austria

Fellow of the Month

In our bimonthly "REWIRE Fellow of the Month" series, we introduce each of our 16 REWIRE fellows. The short interviews give a sneak peek into the everyday life of female postdoctoral researchers, their struggles and successes with academia, and heroines they look up to.
